After being placed in the center of a high profile lawsuit against herself and the SFPD, Detective Lindsay Boxer retreats to her sister’s cottage in the peaceful community of Half Moon Bay. Once there, she becomes embroiled in an ongoing investigation involving a heinous serial killer. As it becomes apparent that these current killings may have ties to her first (and still unsolved) case from 10 years ago, Boxer enlists the aid of her friends and confidantes, medical examiner Claire Washburn and reporter Cindy Thomas to help her uncover the shocking truths that lie beneath the placid surface of Half Moon Bay. Patterson (with co-writer Maxine Paetro) combines his trademark style of short chapters with brilliant characterization to create a tight page-turner that never loses your interest whether the focus be on the courtrooms of San Francisco or the back porches and front yards of Half Moon Bay. “4th of July” will keep you reading – and guessing - right until the very end.

It was a quick fast paced book that never gave me time to get bored with it. Once I started reading it I didn't want to put it down. I really liked the fact that all of the loose ends and questions were solved in the end. Now I must read the other 3 in this series. ;) Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer is a great leading character. There are also very good supporting characters, such as the other cops, her circle of friends, her love interest Joe and the new characters that she meets in the town of Half Moon Bay. Two adorable characters are Lindsay's border collie Martha and Penelope the potbellied pig. This story truly does have everything; a great murder mystery with a twist, a suspenseful trial, friendships, lots of interesting characters, animals and a sweet romance.

I just had to keep reading until the end. This has everything: A little romance, a shocking crime, a sub-plot (are they connected?) a shocking twisted ending, a few red herrings to keep you guessing until the end. Just a great combination of elements that make reading this genre fun and interesting. I am anxiously waiting for the next in the series The 5th Horseman. I think this is my favorite in the the series so far, which is unusual because often the first two are the best then they go downhill, but this series just picks up speed and character development with our dear Lindsey Boxer.

Detective Lindsay Boxer and the Women's Murder Club make a courageous return to their fourth and most chilling case ever--one that could easily be their last. In a late-night showdown after a near-fatal car chase, San Francisco police-lieutenant Lindsay Boxer has to make an instantaneous decision: In self-defense, she fires her weapon--and sets off a chain of events that leaves a police force disgraced, an entire city divided, and a family destroyed. Now everthing she's worked her entire life for hinges on the decision of 12 jurors. You will be on the edge of your seat waiting to read what happens next to Lindsay, her friends and family. Great book, thoroughly entertaining!

The characters are real; they grow with the story and keep it real. I love his subtle hints, the ones that you read now and then realize later when you find out something else in the story, great summer read, do all Five.

I bought it because it was on the New York Times Best Seller's List, and it got me addicted to the "murder club mystery" series! Since buying this book I've read the entire series!

This book comes as the 4th in a series about a group of professional young women who formed a clique and it has now turned to a Murder Club. The previous ones are 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree and now 4th of July. There is also one that comes after which is the 5th Horseman. I cant wait to see what Mr Patterson would have for number 6. They are great reading material and I would encourage anyone who loves mystery books to get the whole series. (A note to Ebay) They buyer was true to their word and the book was in excellent condition actually brand new. What I dislike though is that I am in the Caribbean and I dont have access to Paypal. I prefer sellers who accept international credit cards. It makes it so much easier than getting money orders. The bank charges for Money Orders in my country is high so I end up paying much more than I would like.

Although the story does get a little tricky to follow as the chapters switch points of view from 1st to 3rd person and back again several times, it is a very action packed thriller that is bound to entertain everyone. The little twist at the end is definately worth the wait.
