Grabbing onto the natural disaster theme, Ms. Steel's "Amazing Grace" is a story about a prominent San Francisco socialite named Sarah Sloane. She is hosting a celebrity studded charity event, including the Grammy winner, Melanie, and so she is sure it will be a huge success. Unfortunately, a devastating earthquake strikes. In the middle of it all is gossip photographer, Everett Carson, snapping pictures left and right until he comes upon a beautiful woman who is administering to the victims. What makes her so different is that Sister Mary Magdalen is clearly in her element. Between Sarah, Everett, Melanie and Sister Mary, they find that they all have secrets to hide in the wake of this tragedy and are compelled to re-examine their lives. In doing so, a strong bond is formed that will lead them all to a new beginning. This new Danielle Steel book has a lot of spiritual over tones. It does seem that it take a tragedy to change someone's life and in this book there is "amazing grace." I think Ms. Steel's fans will be pleased with this new work. It has a different tone from most of her other books.

| 1 out of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book was overall really corny. It tells the story of four major characters and the short-term future of their lives after a large earthquake in San Fransciso; a couple where the husband committed serious financial fraud (the fallout and emotion with regard to the wife was lame, at best), a young female superstar singer who is trying to break away from her controlling mother and has a budding romance with a young man she met at the earthquake shelter, and a 40-something nun who is falling in love with a freelance photographer (he's a recovering alcoholic) and trying to decide if she should give up her vows to marry the man. There is no depth to these characters and I had a hard time connecting to any of them. The writing was choppy with an overabundance of six word sentences. It is a quick read, but I found myself skipping over sentences just to get it overwith. Overall, I would rate this book Below Average for is lack of character depth and poor quality writing and phrasing. A disappointing book by one of my favorite authors who used to write books with a great deal of thought and emotion. | |

Danielle Steel is my favorite author - anything she writes I have in both paperback and hard cover. I am always looking to buy her books through ebay and of course trying to find the best deal that is why I purchased this. I gave this an excellent due to it being Danielle Steel where can you go wrong. As long as she continues to write I will continue to purchase. I can't wait to read.

Love all of Danielle Steel's books. This is an especially nice story. Danielle Steel manages to go back in time (when necessary) to make a point in her story. Even though most of her stories have a happy ending the main characters always have a lot of hardships along the way. I read her books over and over again because I really enjoy them.

Very Good Book! It took me 3 days to read it. But not becasue of the length of it. It only took 3 days, because I COULD NOT put it down. It was THAT GOOD. CHARACTERS : Melanie: Young Singer Janet: Melanie's Mom who often seems more like a slave driver. Jake : UGH!!! Tom: WONDERFUL Maggie: The Best!!! ( You'll see why ) Everett: Photographer. Sarah: beautiful woman, whom WAS a socialite at the begining of the story... Read it and you'll see why I said WAS a socialite. Seth: Sarah's husband. I'm afraid to say too much and give it away. If you like Steele's other books you'll love this one. Susan

I decided to buy this book because I have read all of Danielle's other books and have always been pleased. I found this storyline to be too choppy and predictable. That being said, I still enjoyed it.
