I LOVE PIZZA!! Very Tasty Book by Grisham

Third-string Cleveland Browns quarterback Rick Dockery becomes the greatest ever by throwing three interceptions in the closing minutes of the AFC championship game. Fleeing vengeful fans, he finds refuge in the grungiest corner of professional football, the Italian National Football League as quarterback of the inept but full-of-heart Parma Panthers. What follows is a winning football fable, complete with team bonding and character-building as the underdog Panthers challenge the powerhouse Bergamo Lions for a shot at the Italian Superbowl. Rick is first baffled and then enchanted by all things Italian-tiny cars, the opera, benign corruption!-and through him Grisham instructs his readership in the art of gracious living, featuring sumptuous four-hour, umpteen-course meals. The writing sometimes lapses into travel-guide ("most Italian cities are sort of configured around a central square, called a piazza") and food porn ("the veal cutlets are beaten with a small bat, then dipped in eggs, fried in a skillet, and then baked in the oven with a mix of parmigiano cheese and stock until the cheese melts"), but it's invigorated by appealing characters and lively play-by-play. The result is a charming fish-out-of-water story.

This woman liked it!

I am a woman and I really enjoyed the book. It’s more than just a book about football; it’s about a man’s career in football and his relationships with the people around him, men and women alike. I also found his descriptions of Italy (the sites and foods) to be fascinating. This is very different than legal thrillers that we are familiar with, but I don’t think I have ever been let down by Mr. Grisham. If you like Grisham, it’s worth a read.

Awful

This is quite possibly the worst book I've ever read. It is slow and ohhhh so boring. I will say that I am a girl and reading about several (7-8 maybe more) different football games that he describes play by play is almost unbearable, not to mention his bite by bite descriptions of italian food. Towards the end I just skipped over the football games and stuck with the story. Yes, I know this is a book about football and it is probably my fault for not knowing this, but I thought football was going to be the general story line, not John Grisham trying to let the world know how much he knows about football.

If you are a football fan and know the game then this may be a good book, but for me the mediocre story did not make up for the endless football greek.

Not the usual Grisham fare, but a fun read nonetheless. Will be particularly interesting to anyone who likes Italy, Italian food, travel or football. A lighthearted "loser makes good" story. If you are looking for a gripping legal page turned with intrigue and suspense, look elsewhere, otherwise enjoy this simple offering from a very readable author.

I have read most of Grisham's other novels and have always enjoyed them. This story is quite a bit different than his previous work. I read this book in a matter of a few hours over a weekend. It kept my interest and was a great story. Yes, there is a lot of about football, women and Italy but that is the story! Interesting and engaging! I look forward to his next novel.

I am not a huge football fan, but I do love books by John Grisham. This book is refreshingly different than any of the other books by him. A story of an NFL player down on his luck, relocating to a different country and learning the culture and ways of Italy. It was a nice change from the usual subject matter written in books by John Grisham. It is a fast read and you will find yourself rooting for the underdog! The attention to detail describing the area and food are so authentic, having just traveled to Italy this past June. The descriptions bring me right back, and would make the person who has never been there get a really good idea of the Italian culture. Not a big, suspenseful plot, just a great feel-good book.

It was listed as an advance reader copy. In might have turned out to be an advance sale. Ebay apparently had a lot of problems with this seller and canceled them. I was supposed to get my money back but it didn't happen

There are a few bad apples in every basket
