Tired and Disappointing

I am a long term reader of the Plum Series. Every year I've looked forward to the newest installment of the Plum Series and this year's Fearless Fourteen was no exception. I gave up reading at chapter nine. I was bored silly. As yet, I've been unable to make myself finish it. This reads like a newbie author's attempt and after 14 books, I expect more. The mystery lacks oomph, the plot is difficult to follow as it meanders through the book, and the dialogue seems to lack Evanovich's usual character driven style and wit. Long term readers know that a Stephanie Plum is a a fun experience with oodles of action, snappy dialogue and characters that most writers would love to lay claim to. I didn't hate this book because I couldn't work up the energy but I do hate that I feel apathetic about something I once enjoyed so much.

Could Be Better

I've been reading the Plum series books since book 2. I must say this book could have been better. First of all Ranger was hardly ever in the book and there was almost never an sexual tension between them. She also practically lived in Morelli's house and they were living like an old married couple, No Ranger. Half of the time Morelli was like a man who couldn't keep it in his pants. Also there were a whole bunch of pointless sub plots that never were resolved or ended. There was no bounty hunting either, i mean i really like the books because of all the wild things that occur while trying to get skippers. There was one with a monkey and thats it. I must say Janet could of done much better.

My first Stephanie Plum experience was book #6 and I absolutely loved it...really laughed out loud, was charmed by the characters. I bought all the books, read one after the other and just finished Fearless Fourteen. Unfortunately, the quality of the writing is steadily going downhill. The plots now are sketchy and minimal and Stephanie and Co. spend all their time rushing from one place to another, with inexplicable, poorly thought out plans. Stephanie used to be introspective and interesting. Not anymore. She just rushes from here to there. Lula has become as unfunny a character as any I've met. She's just nuts now, with no common sense and no reality. Stephanie needs to dump her. The little "holiday" unnumbered books are unreadable. I'm very sad...I loved those earlier stories. I'll stick with them to the end just to find out what happens to everyone, but..in used paperbacks.

Fearless Fourteen...the end of Plum for me

The Plum series used to be fresh and cute mysteries about a newly single woman who through determination and drive accomplished what no one thought she could. It was fun to watch Stephanie with her family and with her skips and to watch those relationships develop. Fearless Fourteen is not fun, but quite frankly it is a character assassination.

Stephanie is no longer the free spirited spunky young woman that we once loved, but more like the Burg woman her mother wants her to be. But instead of adopting The Joy of Cooking into her library, Stephanie appears to have adopted The Joy of Settling for Less. She follows Morelli’s rules without objection and often just seems to be in the background. Morelli is no longer the attractive Italian cop he once was, but more like a reflection of Vinnie. Lula is more like Joyce in this one, and Tank took the place of Albert Kloughn, but the worst travesty of all is there is minimal Ranger. Looking back I’m not sure that is such a bad thing. I’m sure he threw up his hands and refused to participate in “Bizzaro Plum”. Ranger has a certain moral code he lives by, after all.

Long story short, if you want to read a Plum book with the same old jokes, but different characters then this may be the book for you. For this former fan, who once paid over $500 for a Plum Arc, this was the end for me.

Seems Evanovich is just cranking out another book, without much thought to plot or character development. Good for a few, very few, laughs. I've read the complete series up to now, but this just might be the last.

I was greatly disappointed with this book. There really didn't seem to be a plot just a lot pointless messing around.

Another Stephanie Plum adventure - not as exciting as others and definitely not her best, but I still enjoyed it and laughed out loud at certain parts.

(Seems like Janet Evanovich just got this one out real quick without much thought to plot.)

I LOVE Janet's Series of Books. They are fantastic. I was a little disappointed in this one though. Not as much fun as the others. And the books are getting a little thinner as the series moves on. I just hope she jumps back in with number Fifteen.

a Stephanie Plum book that is just average? this is it~ no up to the total fun of her previous books~ some fun dialog but that is it~ seem like Evanovich is getting tired of Stephanie and it shows~

for the die hard Stephanie Plum fan because if this was your first book you probably would make it your last~

I GIVE IT A SOLID 6 OUT OF 10 for just a bit of above Average but we have read PLUM 10s and this not it~

I will admit this was not my favorite of the Plum Series. I do like how it seems Stephanie is going to settle down with Joe. The sexual tension with Ranger it keeps you turning the pages but I want Stephanie to marry Joe because I want to read about the fiasco of a Wedding with Grandma Bella and Grandma Mazur and how much whiskey her mom drinks ! I read a advertisement or something about the monkey in 14 so I was expecting so much more like I thought them monkey would belong to Grandma Mazur. I loved seeing Mooner back in the book. I'd like to see Sally Sweet in the next book - I think Sally Sweet and Lula should be the bridesmaids for Stephanies wedding to Joe. The book was kinda slow it didn't have me up all night loosing sleep to get through the back but after it was over I did feel my Evanovich depression after I read one of her books I can't seem to get into another book because I'm holding all the books up to Evanovich standards. I didn't agree with the title seemed like Stephanie wasn't as brave or as dumb I should say ! And I'd like to see Stephanie get knocked up in a book with Joe's baby and Lula needs to get knocked up with Tank's baby but Ranger needs to remain single and the underlying sexual tension between Stephanie & him needs to remain like maybe she can have a almost a affair or something. I did love the last line in the book though where Joe says he's a cupcake man now ! SO CUTE !!!!! I keep hoping a Plum movie is going to come out or at least a mini series. I love the books and will keep reading them as long as Janet writes them.
