Graphics - 8/10 For what the game is, you are not buying this game to play for the graphics – though Activision was able to make the animations more vibrant, and a more noticeable experience. Sound – 10/10 The track list for this game, along with the original recordings (including the reunited Sex Pistols!) is a must have. You will get lost in involvement when playing this game. This is one of the best soundtracks in a game to date. Gameplay – 9/10 Though under new “ownership”, Activision has taken this game this game down a similar road, but with a new car. With slight improvements in the display hud, the notifications of streaks, and the “star power” activators easier to get, this game is fun. Plain and simple. Replay Value - 10/10 It will hard not to play this game over and over. This is a worthy sequel. Overall - 9/10 There are a few new tweaks to the actual gameplay, and it feels a bit easier to play (except some of the very final songs), but this game follows the old saying “if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it”. The song list, along with the new guitar, is stellar. With all the original, or master, tracks that are in this game, it is hard not to enjoy this game if you are a fan of rhythm or music games. The new wireless “Gibson” guitar is heavier, more durable, and the closest thing to a real guitar peripheral that I have felt. I must say that this is a nice controller, and I did not want to put it down. I applaud Activision’s attention to detail. I highly recommend this bundle. | |

I had heard about Guitar Hero, and being a musician and teacher, the concept sort of frightened me at first. I've seen all kinds of music "games" and learn to play this and that in thirty days, etc. Almost without exception, the game/program/video/toy is a complete joke, a waste of money, and usually not any fun. My opinion started to change earlier this summer. My young nephews were visiting, and they brought along their Playstation 2. As I washed dishes in the kitchen, I heard Black Sabbath and Rush emanating from the living room. My curiosity piqued, I stepped into the living room to see my nephew sitting on the couch, plastic guitar in hand, jamming along to some of the greatest songs of my youth. Music I NEVER would have imagined him enjoying, let alone ever being exposed to. I'm not advocating Guitar Hero as an educational game. Sure, it certainly can help to instill a better sense of rhythm, but playing the game is so unlike playing an actual guitar that any comparison is almost laughable. The greatest thing about Guitar Hero, other than it being a complete blast to play, is that it exposes today's youth to dozens of examples of GOOD music, from a time and place when actual talent was required to be a musician. Notice: not a sign anywhere of Britney, boy bands, or any of the typical atrocious pop that passes for music these days. If you haven't played Guitar Hero, an explanation of the game won't do it any justice. It's like swimming in the ocean, it can be described a million different ways, but until you've experienced it, you have no idea. This newest Guitar Hero doesn't seem to have that much more to offer, but it doesn't really matter. If they kept making Guitar Hero II over and over again with a new set of songs, I would buy every one. (The original Guitar Hero's multiplayer mode isn't as good as GH II.) There are new characters, new styles, guitars, and of course songs. But none of that really matters, because once the notes come flying at you, you won't even notice who you are and certainly not what you're wearing! This new version supports multiplayer online play. Online play seems to be all the rage these days, but it's just not my thing. But the option to be able to play with a friend (or a stranger) in a distant part of the world only adds to the value. The biggest, and to my knowledge, only problem with Guitar Hero III for Wii is that currently you cannot buy a second standalone guitar controller. My favorite part of Guitar Hero is the multiplayer mode, where you can compete or cooperate with a friend. Especially since Guitar Hero III has a COOPERATIVE CAREER MODE, you'd think offering a standalone controller at release would be a no-brainer. If you've read this far, you've already wasted too much time. You could have been half way to the store. Go, go NOW! You won't regret it. | |

Graphics - 6/10 Come on...I can see bumpers smashing in racing games, more blood than I care to see in shooter games, and even chocolate bubbling in the pond in a children's game... and I can't get better graphics than this for my favorite XBox 360 game? Better luck on Guitar Hero 4. The one improvement I have enjoyed is the better display hud (your score). Sound – 10/10 Some of the songs aren't the greatest sound quality (like Boston) but the sound is as good as Guitar Hero predecessors. Overall the track list was top notch. I'd love to see some more popular songs for some of my less savvy classic rock friends, but overall the music is great and will keep you rocking all night long. Overall - 9/10 Judging this game against Guitar Hero 1 and 2, it is a better game and worthy of a sequel. However, judging it against the new Rock Band... it loses some appeal because Rock Band offers more options for more people (mic and drums). If you're looking for a game that will give you awesome songs, lots of fun for all skill levels, and a 4-player mode, you should go with Rock Band. (note: the Rock Band guitar sucks so you'll want to use a Guitar Hero guitar) The new wireless Gibson guitar that comes in the Guitar Hero 3 package is a must have. It's a little easier to hold than previous guitars, I think the buttons are slightly easier to use, and although I thought being wireless might affect some play I can't notice any lag or difficulties. The best part about this game is it is a game and not a collection of mini-games which is what has been the staple of Wii games since the release. Controller: The new Les Paul wireless guitar for the Wii is awesome. :) The input in the guitar for the Wii remote is great! It makes the guitar wireless and provides a great little bonus. When you miss a note the speaker on the remote provides a ping string noise and then vibrates the guitar a bit. It is great. There is also a nice option of a removable faceplate for you to customize your guitar (just saw an American Flag, British Flag, and wood finish). Game Play: 10/10 The game play is incredible. The songs have different levels of difficulty in order for you to not loose interest. The storyline is also very fun. The locations are also nice. Plus, the ability for you to unlock games on solo and co-op game play is nice! There is also a neat WIFI ability for you to battle friends online (using your Wii friend codes). Songs: 11/10 The song list is wild. You get mostly master tracks and the sound quality is nice. You get Guns 'n Roses, Metallica, Peppers, Stones, Queens of the Stoneage and many more. You also have a great selection from the 60's to 2007! :) Hopefully, the Wii version will have downloadable song packs in the store soon! Graphics: 8.5/10 The graphics are not bad. This would be the weak part of the game. You are mostly focussed in on the guitar neck and the notes coming down for you to hit. So you might not notice the "cartoonish" feeling of the background. Yet it is there and does match the feel of the venues that you play. This is a true smash hit for the Wii. The first installment of Guitar Hero for the Wii is awesome. | 8 out of 8 people found the following review helpful. I have heard many good reviews about the "Guitar Hero" franchise and I was interested in trying this game out on my new Nintendo Wii. For the one guitar and the game, I paid just under $90 (which is a lot for a video game), so I was really hoping I'd enjoy it. I wanted to rent it first, but no video stores in my city offered this game for rental. PROS: -on the whole, the guitar is quite comfortable and easy to use and hold -there is a tutorial mode as well as a practice mode, so you can learn how to play the game, which is excellent for first-timers -you can choose your difficulty: easy (3/5 frets), medium (4/5 frets) or hard (5/5 frets), which is very good to accomodate novice to expert players -challenging game play...you're not driving or shooting or other 'typical' video game actions...you're trying to hit the correct notes at the correct time. Really helps develop a sense of rhythm. -as an observer to the game (not playing it), it is interesting to watch the music video-like background that is happening at the same time as game play. Makes "waiting your turn" much more bearable. -the music was a great assortment of "classic" rock from the 60s, 70s and 80s. There was some newer alternative rock as well, which I didn't like as much, but to each his/her own. -overall, very easy to pick up and play. There is a "learning curve" involved and some people will take to it faster than others, but it is fun for all ages, teen through adult. (the game is rated T for teen, probably for some of the old rock lyrics) CONS: -I noticed that after playing about 5 songs in a row (about 20 minutes), when I stopped to rest my fingers, I realized that my vision was distorted. Looking over at the wall, it appeared to be moving and swirling. No doubt this is due to the nature of the game, which has you staring intently at approaching dots coming down the screen...rather like staring at cars on a multi-lane highway for long periods of time. I did not like this visual disturbance, so I limited myself to no more than 4 songs in a row, then I had to turn it off. I can see that a game like this could trigger conditions such as headaches and seizures and vertigo and even nausea, if played for an extended periods of time. -at the end of the second 'round', where to continue, you have to have a guitar battle one-on-one against some contemporary rocker. I found this challenge to be boring and frustrating and the only way to get through it was to put the TV on "MUTE". -I also didn't much care about gaining "star power" (obtained by hitting the correct notes and not making any errors). To activate it, you have to jerk the guitar upwards, and every time I do this, I ended up missing notes. I would rather continue "regular" play and get all the notes right than jump around in "star power" mode and miss notes in the process. I didn't think "star power" was all that important to the game. -I found the background to be very distracting during game play, with the graphics changing while I was trying to concentrate. I have heard criticism that the graphics were not as good as they could be, but when you're playing, you can't/don't see any visuals anyway (too busy concenrating) OVERALL: I have to say I like this game. I am surprised how quickly I took to it, and I can't wait until the rest of my family comes over to give it a try. I'd give it a 4/5 or an 8/10 (whichever you prefer) | |

It has alot of great bands and the rock battles are nice. Then there is the online element to challange other players on the net. It is a grade A game. Just wished for more songs. I mean i am not bashing it but i really hope for a much larger selection of songs for the next release. It is nice to unlock new songs to play around with but each gig should have like 10 song or something. The seems to improve a bit each time with the graphics and hope hope it grows a bit more each time. | |

That being said, activision did a great job with the style of graphics used. The colors are great, and there is nice detail included in characters and guitars. Sound The sound track in this game is superb. They've got it all from Aerosmith, ZZ top, and Black Sabbath, to AFI, The Killers, and Weezer. Gameplay The overall style is the same with Guitar Hero III, as the last; however, there are slight changes/improvements in the display hud, streak notifications, and the “star power” activator is much easier to get. The game is addicting and great fun. Replay This is definitely worthy of replay. I myself have spent countless hours playing it already. It is a great game that will not get old quick. Conclusion This game is a 10 in my book. The song list is phenomenal, the game play is relatively the same, but there are enough changes in the game to start fresh from the last installment. The new guitar is a huge improvement. It is heavier than the previous, and seems much more durable. I would recommend this game to any who loved the other or enjoy music and rhythm. | |

The key gameplay revolves around pressing the corresponding buttons on the guitar neck and strumming to the beat of the song, and this just wouldn't feel the same using a traditional controller. You really won't feel like a guitar hero without that meaty axe in your hands to wail away on the notes that come zipping in on-screen. Guitar Hero III for the Wii will be the "unique" one of the bunch as it's the only version that requires players to plug in a Wii remote before they can start rocking out. The back of the Wii guitar has a compartment that's made specifically for the Wii remote. It only takes a few seconds for preparation before rocking: plug the connector into the bottom of the controller, rest the controller face down, put the wrist strap in the handy nook, and snap the compartment door back on. Easy. The Wii version of the Guitar Hero guitar is essentially the same shape as the Les Paul Gibson guitar that will ship with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. This updated, wireless guitar has a few unseen features, most notably the ability to pop off the neck for easy storage and presumably upgrading purposes as well as the ability to take off the faceplate so you can swap on available, customizable replacements. The device has been improved since the past versions of Guitar Hero: the "flapping" sound of strumming has been muffled significantly, and the buttons have been slightly modified with slightly smaller and slicker buttons to make it easier to maneuver along them quickly. Along with the storage place for the Wii remote, the Wii version of the guitar has one other addition: an analog stick. Why? When your Wii remote's plugged into the guitar, you lose the Wiimote's pointing ability - the analog stick is for players to maneuver the Wii's menu system so they can select the game while the Wiimote's properly plugged into the guitar. What the Wii Remote/Guitar combo gets the game is, naturally, the inherent ability to be a wireless controller right out of the box since it's essentially using all the wireless tech in the remote to talk with the Wii system. The motion detection for when you want to trigger the star power in-game (by lifting the controller) is now provided by the accelerometer within the Wii Remote. But this combo also adds a couple of features that won't be in the other versions of Guitar Hero. First: rumble. The Wii version will be the only Guitar Hero game that will feature force-feedback thanks to the rumble in the controller, and believe it or not, in our hands-on, you really could feel the guitar shake to the beat when you rocked out with Star Power, as well as "buzz" when crazy effects are going on in the game. The second feature? The Wii Remote speaker is used for the game's "squelch" when you miss a note. Hearing it come from your guitar makes two player co-op and two player competition a bit more fun since you can easily tell which player's the one that's screwing up the notes - if player one misses a few notes, the "squelch" will come from his guitar and not player two's. Players can bring the squelching back to the television speaker by turning off the remote's speakers - since the mis-note sound effect is integral to the game, it will recognize if you've kicked off your Wiimote speakers and send the sound back to the main audio output. | |

I have trouble with concentration but this game diffenitly kept my attention and got me hooked. It's easy to catch on too and there is a feeling of serenity when your fingers hit the right buttons insync with the cords of the song. Sorry if that sounded kinda deep, but I think it's brought on by all the kick a$$ songs you get to here and feel like your actually playing...Just a girls point of view | |

The new songs and classics on it make you never want to stop playing. It is slightly more challenging then the other Guitar Hero's, but hey, thats what makes it exciting.
