OK.....to be truthful.....you really do need to read the other 7 books by Evanovich to understand Stephanie and Ranger and Morelli and the whole clan that make the book fit together like a puzzle. You need the background history from the beginning or don't bother. I was VERY pleased with this book....but I won't give away why. Again....you need to know the characters from day one to be dazzled here! Steph does seem to bumble her way luckily out of a lot of situations. I hope the rest of the books have her acting a little more gung ho on the bounty hunter stuff, like wearing her gun and making sure her stunner is working. It does make for the book, but she needs to wise up somewhere along the way. Also.....enough with the car explosions. I'm surprised she is still getting insurance checks. I'd like the name of that insurance company! All in all....what I have been waiting for happened and that made my day so on to book nine.

HER CHARACTER IS FINALLY SHOWING SOME GROWTH IN (SOMEWHAT) MATURITY...BUT SHE STILL HAS A SILLINESS THAT JANET'S READER'S CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF. THESE CHARACTER'S ARE MORE LIFE-LIKE THAN THE "PERFECT" PEOPLE THAT YOU MAY FIND IN OTHER AUTHOR'S BOOKS. MOST PEOPLE ARE A LITTLE CRAZY IN THEIR OWN WAY...WHAT IS "NORMAL" ANYWAYS?? jANET EVANOVICH BRINGS HER CHARACTER'S TO LIFE WITH ALL THEIR FLAWS AND YOU CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE THEM. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT A BOOK CAN MAKE YOU LAUGH OUT LOUD...THEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE MISSING.

This book has it all - kidnapping which turns out to be a race against time, a new cahracter, a "Rangerette" who gets Stephanie's goat & another twist with Ranger & Stephanie's relationship! Add Joe Morelli for more spice, Grandma Mazur & Stephanie's sidekick Lula for more laughs! This is another masterpiece by Janet Evanovich! A 5 Star Rating from this reader!

It's just as funny as the rest, and even though the plot is a little lacking in substance, the fully-developed cast of characters make you forget that part. All-in-all it's a GREAT book. Even thogh it's funny, there is a dark thread running just under the surface, that niggles the mind at every twist and turn. Steph is on the trail of a child-napper--a mom who has run off with her daughter because she feels the child's life is in grave danger--along with almost every other character in town, each wanting the child for his own reasons. Steph and Morelli, her cop ex-'fiance', are once again on the outs, which gives Steph a chance to get drawn further down the black hole of the secret and dangerous life of mercenary, Ranger, and she does. Valerie, Steph's "perfect" sister has given up on learning to be a lesbian, and has taken a shine to a bumbling, idiot-like lawyer(?) who seems to have gotten his law degree from a Cracker-Jack box (and that's not too far from the truth), named, of all things, Albert Kloughn (yes, prounounced like 'clown'). Throw in a bag-full of snakes, a car-full of tarantulas, the mob, a giant rabbit, the usual car explosions and dead bodies, Vinnie, the pervert bail-bonds business owner, Connie, the nothing-ruffles-her-feathers office manager, Lula, the 250# ex-ho (big on bad-mouth-talk, but short on following through), Grandma Mazur (the funniest character of them all), and the usual wierd cast of other characters who race in and out of the pages, and you have one heck of a super read.
