There's an understandably cynical atmosphere to this updated musical version of the German playwright Franz Wedekind's controversial late-19th-century play about adolescent sexuality and its repression by a strict society. But songs like "Totally F*****" and "Bitch of Living" energize their pessimism with hormone-fueled abandon, and an intriguingly sophisticated presentation courtesy of a score by the musician Duncan Sheik and the lyricist Steven... | More | Price: $4.49 - $14.63 List Price: $18.98 |

This is an absolutely refreshing new sound to hit Broadway. I was floored when I listened to this album. Immediately the song, "All That's Known" caught my attention and its now one of my favorite musical numbers ever. The beautiful talent that is Lea Michele soothes the soul with "Mama Who Bore Me" and "Whispering" let alone her performance in the show is spectacular. "The Bitch of Living" makes you want to jump out of seat and just dance your heart out! John Gallagher, Jr. who won a Tony for Best Featured Actor for his performance as Moritz belted his heart out in "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind" and Lauren Pritchard does a sensational duet with Gallagher, Jr. I cried when I heard "Left Behind," Johnathan Groff who portrays Melchior steals the spotlight in this act, as he sings a memorial song for his best friend Moritz, who killed himself because he couldn't live up to his father's standards. Some other songs that I recommend are "Touch Me", "The Word of Your Body", "My Junk", and "The Dark I Know Well." This album should for audiences 13 and older, due to its sexual references and language. All in all, one of my favorite albums that Broadway has produced in the last 10 years. Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater are geniuses.

I love this Cd. I am a big fan. It is not for the young due to the swearing and heavy subject matter. The faster songs are pretty catchy. This musical didn't practicaly sweep the 2007 Tony Awards for nothing!

| Spring Awakening Soundtrack: my current obsession | |
|

This Soundtrack belongs to the 2007 Tony Award winning Musical Spring Awakening. I would highly recommend this recording to anyone that is searching for that something new in Musical Theater. The music is extremely current set to lyrics of the original 1890 German play. The music in this soundtrack moves the emotion from the characters and into its listeners, helping all its viewers feel the full impact of Spring Awakening. Songs like "Don't Do Sadness--Blue Wind" and "Touch Me" are completely moving. It is the way Shiek and Sater place the music together that make every song an eye opening and entrancing experience. The style of the score takes this piece of musical theater out of the 'Show Tune' Genre and places it proudly into the memory of every C.D. player or mp3. I would say the music is primarily alt/pop-rock. Don't let this fool you, there is also a lot of great chorus work with overlapping tones and counterpoint hidden in the harmony. This is a must have for any Spring Awakening Fan. Plus, the C.D. provides pictures and lyrics of the cast and the recording.

It has the 70's feel to the music. The lyrics might be a little cheesy but it has the nostalgic feel to it overall. I would highly recommend to see the show.
