My husband and I came across this CD years ago in a local music store. The store (Streetside Records) is a gem in this part of the country because it still focuses on music not just what can sell the most today. They were playing Teatro in the store and we fell in love with it. We inquired and were told it was the only one they had, so we bought it right out of the cd player. In the midst of a move and possibly a former roommate of my husband, the cd disappeared. I decided to look on ebay and to my delight we found it. We've played it non-stop and it's like falling in love again. It's definitely Wille; can't disguise his unique vocals. But the instrumentation and general feel is a pleasing step into another sound. Emmylou Harris might be the only vocalist who can consistently sing harmony with Willie. Above or below Willie's melody line (and sometimes both since he tends to go where his vocals lead him), she adds color to an already unique project. Keep an open mind when you listen and enjoy. It's a real treat.

| "Teatro" . Willie Nelson... | |

Willie Nelson has suffered critical abuse over the years (usually from journalists, not musicians and performers) about his voice, his phrasing or the appearance of his guitar: The voice expresses emotion and soul, the phrasing is as relaxed and perfect as Frank Sinatra's whilst the Martin classical guitar reverberates through its crafted tonewoods and brass bridge-plate like no other guitar in the world,(the reason he won't get rid of the well-worn,"Trigger"), part gypsy-jazz, part Tex-Mex. Teatro is a fine album. Listen to it and consider the laid-back, apparently effortless, sense of rhythm and counter rhythm, vocal emotion and sympathetic harmony (Emmilou Harris). One of the greatest musical artists of our time, forget any catagories or preconceptions, this is Willie Nelson at his best. If you know about Willie, you will know about this album, if you're new to Willie Nelson, listen to this album. If you need to listen before you buy, make the effort (youtube). This is music made by true musicians; people who could gather in a room or garden (with no electricty) and play and sing and WOW you! Willie Nelson is a musician who has had to "hold" and entertain audiences and the variety of skills he has developed have been reigned and channelled to achieve excellence in the recording studio too. Of the "Outlaws" of country music, Willie is technically the clear frontrunner. The term "Country" doesn't define him at all. He plays anything he likes and has the appealing philosophy that if it's good, it's good, whatever the genre.
