I grew up with my mom listening to this in her car for as long as I can remember. I remember all of the songs, but never grew an appreciation for it again until recently I listened to the lyrics and realized how politically driven and emotionally compelling they are. Tracy Chapman uses her stirring voice mixed with her ability to write amazing songs on poverty and the struggles of African-Americans in today's society. Although this was produced 20 years ago, most of the lyrics still hold up to today. If you're looking for something new to listen to, but nothing is good on the radio, get this CD - you won't regret it. | |

This album came out of leftfield in 1988... no one knew who this Tracy Chapman was, but we all heard Fast Car on the radio and thought, let's take a listen... every song on the album is harder hitting than Fast Car and you're left crying and replaying it again and again. It holds up great over the past 2 decades and I recently purchased the CD version of it. Utterly amazing. | |
